Fees & Insurance
My standard fee for a 50 minute individual therapy session is $200. I hold a number of reduced-fee spots based on economic need, and my capacity. My reduced-fee clients live with economic hardship and most come from marginalized communities. If you need reduced fee therapy, please let me know and we can discuss. If I cannot take you on as a client I will seek to offer you some trusted alternatives.
I accept payment in cash, check, credit card, flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA). My HIPAA*-approved secure electronic health record system can store your credit card, FSA or HSA card to bill for easy billing. Your card’s information is secure and is not viewable by me or anyone else.
Insurance:
I am an out of network provider. This means I don't contract directly with any insurance companies. I do accept clients with Lyra Employee Assistance Program benefits although I have a maximum number of Lyra clients I can accept at a given time. If this pertains to you, please let me know.
If you have a PPO/EPO health plan, I can provide you with a monthly statement “Superbill” for reimbursement from your insurance company. This is usually a percentage of the fee and varies somewhat widely— from +/-20%-70% depending on the plan. I encourage you to call the number on the back of your insurance card to ask what your “out of network” benefits are. Please let me know if you have questions about this process and I will help you if I can.
*HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, a law designed to provide privacy standards to protect patients' medical records and other health information.
Notification of Good Faith Estimate:
Effective January 1, 2022, a federal ruling went into effect called the “No Surprises Act,” which requires mental health practitioners to provide a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) of costs to any patient who is uninsured or who is insured but does not plan to use their insurance benefits to pay for specific health care services. We are also required to notify you of your right to a GFE in session (verbally) and to attempt to answer any questions you may have. Each client’s GFE is included in their intake packet .
While the law may be intended to protect consumers from surprise medical bills, much of the law also appears irrelevant and redundant for private practice psychotherapists and clients; Our licensing boards and professional ethics already require that we communicate our cost of service per session to every client. We also bill per session at the time of service. Thus, it is exceedingly rare for a private practice psychotherapy patient to receive a surprise bill.
Our standard fee for a 50-minute session is $200. Fairley Parson Psychotherapy & Consulting provides reduced fee therapy to a portion of their caseload based on need and availability. If you receive a reduced fee, your therapist will work this out with you, in advance, and your fee per session will be included in your GFE.
Your treatment and cost of treatment will vary based on your individual mental health, the amount of therapy sessions needed/wanted, and the type and length of services you attend. You have a right to initiate a dispute resolution process if the actual amount charged to you substantially exceeds the estimated charges stated in your Good Faith Estimate (which means $400 or more beyond the estimated charges).
The Good Faith Estimate is not intended to serve as a recommendation for treatment or prediction to attend a specific number of psychotherapy visits. Therapy is and will always be voluntary and tailored to fit your needs.
